On October 31, within the meeting of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic with the representatives of civil sector on environmental issues, the letter of gratitude of the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev was issued to the general director of KAZENERGY Association Bolat Akchulakov for the effective cooperation within EXPO-2017 and support in organization and holding of the Ministerial conference and the Eighth International Forum “Ensuring of the sustainable energy development”. 

As the Minister pointed out, the conducted Forum aroused an increased public interest and was widely covered in the press. More than 2900 delegates from 90 world countries, including 20 ministers and vice-ministers, more than 15 heads of international organizations (OSCE, UNDP, UNIDO, GECF, IEC, IEA, IRENA etc.), as well as the heads of large energy companies attended the event. 


During the Ministerial Conference, the Statement of ministers containing several specific measures on ensuring the achievement of the goals within the new Global Agenda until 2030 taking into account the agreed improvements in the field of energy efficiency, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in energy sector and ensuring of the common access to energy, was accepted. 


The Statement also included the support of creation of the International center for “green” technologies and investment projects development “Future Energy” in Astana by the key UN organizations. Currently, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan performs an active work on the Center establishment.


In turn, Bolat AKCHULAKOV thanked the ministry for the full support and shared brief results of the past key events of EXPO business program with the attendees: the Ministerial Conference, the Eighth International Energy Forum and the XI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. In addition, the immediate priorities of the Association were identified - the study of the possibilities of transition to green energy, active participation in lawmaking activity, international cooperation development and preservation and safety of the environment. 


Within the framework of the event, K. Bozumbaev reported on the activities of the Ministry of Energy on environmental issues, and Saltanat Rakhimbekova, Chairperson of the Commission of Ecology of the Public Council, presented her speech. 
Kanat Aldabergenovich presented a brief overview of the main directions and results of the Ministry's activities on the implemented programs, key indicators, tasks for further development of the environment protection field. The Minister reported that by 2020, 103 new renewable energy facilities will appear in the country. Next year, the first auction on the introduction of new renewable energy sources will be held. Funds for this purpose were provided, including by the EBRD, which allocated $ 200 million for the development of renewable energy resources. Bozumbayev noted that modern technologies presented at EXPO-2017 in foreign pavilions will undoubtedly be applied and will be implemented within the work of the Ministry. By 2025, Kazakhstan plans to ensure a 15% reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. More than 37 billion tenge are allocated for these purposes, as well as for organization of other environment protection activities. The undertaken activities include the reduction in the number of old cars, which helps to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. At present, about 26 thousand old cars have been bought and recycled. The results of ongoing environment protection works will be published annually by the Ministry of Energy in the National Report on the state of the environment and natural resources. At the end of the meeting, the Minister also presented the letters of gratitude to the well-known Kazakh scientists whose developments were demonstrated in the Kazakhstan pavilion “Nur-Alem”: Taukenov A.S., Bakenov Zh.B., Yermagambet B.T., Alimgazin A.Sh., Dikhanbayev B.I. and Baiseitov D.M.
