The issues of developing alternative energy sources and achieving carbon neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060 were discussed on September 28 at a thematic meeting of the Committee on Economic Reform and Regional Development of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by Rau Albert Pavlovich.
Vice-Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Rakhimov spoke about the ongoing work on the development of a new law on the development of alternative energy sources. The development of the draft law is related to ensuring sustainable balanced development of the energy sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan while reducing the level of greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality goals. It is planned to legislate measures to support alternative energy based on new technologies for generating and storing energy and their integration into the UES.
Speech by the Vice-Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Primkulov was devoted to the Doctrine (strategy) of achieving carbon neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060. He announced the main directions and indicators of the industries covered by the strategic document.

During the discussion, the deputies were interested in the current situation and further plans for the development of green energy, measures and approaches to fulfill the obligations of Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The meeting participants noted the special economic and social importance of the electric power industry against the background of further decarbonization and the impact on end consumers.
As a result, the deputies agreed to send an appeal to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the issues voiced at the meeting.
