Development of Renewable Energy Sources
Renewable energy is a dynamically developing industry in the country. The development of renewable energy in Kazakhstan started in 2009 with the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Support for the Use of Renewable Energy Sources".

The RES sector faces the challenge of achieving the RES share of up to 3% in total electricity production in 2020, up to 6% in 2025, 15% by 2030, and by 2050 renewable and alternative energy sources must account for at least half of the total energy consumption.

As a result of the policy to stimulate the development of renewable energy, the number of RES projects implemented in the 2014-2021 period increased 5 times from 26 to 134 RES facilities.

The most important measures of state support for the use of renewable energy include long-term power purchase agreements concluded with a single buyer of electric power – the Settlement and Financial Center for the Support of Renewable Energy Sources, as well as annual indexation of tariffs.

Major oil and gas companies are moving towards diversification, expanding the scope of their activities to cover "green" sectors, such as renewable and hydrogen energy; electric vehicle charging stations; carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS); and distribution of electric power and natural gas.

The Association regularly participates in drafting amendments to legislation in the field of renewable and alternative energy sources development, and ensures ongoing discussion with member companies to develop a common position on core issues.
