As part of the celebration of the 120th anniversary of Kazakhstani oil and the 110th birthday of Safi Utebayev, a ceremony was held to unveil his monument in the Atyrau University in Atyrau on September 1 of this year. Safi Utebayev was one of the founders of the oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan, a pioneer of a number of oil deposits.
This year, the Non-Profit Joint Stock Company Atyrau University of Oil and Gas was named after Safi Utebayev by the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Safi Utebayev’s relatives and friends, the governor of Atyrau region, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, oil industry veterans, representatives of oil and gas companies, university students and teachers attended the event.
In his speech, Mr. U. Karabalin, Deputy Chairman of KAZENERGY Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Atyrau University of Oil and Gas named after Safi Utebayev, reminded to everyone that in the Soviet era, due to Safi Utebayev’s initiative, for 20 years, the best universities of the country were accepting 100 students from the western region without a competition and it was he who was at the forefront of KazPTI oil faculty opening. He also noted that Atyrau University of Oil and Gas is one of the leading universities in the oil and gas industry and it has been one of the first in Kazakhstan to become a non-profit joint-stock company. As part of the educational program implemented by KAZENERGY Association, students of domestic educational institutions annually receive scholarships named after Safi Utebayev from Chevron Company.
Madina Arystanova, a 2nd year student of the Master’s program in the chemical technology of organic substances of the Atyrau University of Oil and Gas, is also a scholarship holder. At the ceremony, Mr. Ilyas Kulzhanov, CEO of Chevron Munaigas Inc. in Atyrau region, presented her a monetary certificate.
The Safi Utebayev Museum was also opened at the oil and gas faculty of the Atyrau University of Oil and Gas on that significant day.
