The Astana ESG Forum 2025 was held at the Astana International Financial Centre — a key platform for discussing strategies and best practices in sustainable development, environmental protection, corporate governance, and social responsibility.
The forum brought together representatives of government bodies, international organizations, businesses, and the expert community, becoming one of the year’s major events dedicated to promoting ESG principles in Kazakhstan.
Opening the plenary session, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized that the ideas of sustainable development and just transition, outlined in the President’s Address in September 2025, are not merely new priorities, but a manifestation of rationality in public policy and economic governance — where decisions are made with a long-term vision of their impact on society and the environment.
The forum focused on achieving national carbon neutrality goals by 2060, developing the green economy, and implementing best available technologies.
Welcome remarks were also delivered by Yerlan Nysanbayev (Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan), Zafar Khashimov (Country Manager of IFC), and Ainur Sospanova (Chairwoman of the Board of the Qazaq Green RES Association).
During a panel session, Lazzat Akhmurzina, Executive Director of the KAZENERGY Association, noted:
“ESG is the rational logic of the future. Energy, industry, education — everything is moving toward a model where the quality of decisions is measured not only by outcomes, but also by their impact on people, nature, and the country’s future.
KAZENERGY sees its mission in developing human capital and professional qualifications, ensuring equal rights and opportunities, and fostering a fair and conscious transition.”
The Astana ESG Forum 2025 reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s position as a regional leader in sustainable development and the “green” transition, while highlighting the importance of state–business cooperation in building a responsible economy of the future.
